#91 RE: DONNERSTAG aus LICHT reply

This will probably be of more interest to new listeners of Stockhausen's LICHT cycle, but I have written a new umbrella page for Thursday From Light for my Stockhausen blog. Despite the prior contents of this thread, it has no real analysis of the symbolic themes, since that to me is kind of an advanced topic. Being more of an introductory text, I concentrated more on how damn INTERESTING the whole thing is, even without knowledge of its influences. It's just a really rollicking and exciting story. Anyways:

Being a sci-fi movie fan, it's an interesting experience to imagine if KS had chosen Star Wars character names instead of Urantia names: Michael as "Luke", Eva as "Leia" and Lucifer as "Darth/Anakin". Donnerstag in particular has that whole Campbell "hero's journey" thing going for it. Just a fun thought-game... certainly better than some kind of insane-asylum Oedipal/Scientology mish-mash...oops, wrong thread! ;)

I feel that it could be useful to have a discussion-forum on the music of Stockhausen. There are so many people from all over the world, young and old, learned and eager to get into contact with this musical world: musicologists, composers, musicians, music lovers; people who plan concerts - who write books or have to give lectures and so on. So there should be much stuff, many ideas that we can share. And when we have open questions, there may be people who studied just that and could give a hint or a stimulus. A problem might be the English language, but i feel that is the only possibility that many people who are interested can participate. And we can exercise tolerance to mistakes! Thomas Ulrich
