Last week there was a Stockhausen festival in Munich, mainly with the early piano music, Aimard performing. I could not take part because of illness. Now in German newspapers there are some reviews; especially positive this one by Max Nyffeler, who is a real expert: http://www.faz.net/aktuell/feuilleton/bu...n-13883279.html When I read it, I thought: It is always the same thing with Stockhausen. His main works are rather rare in concert hall. But when they are performed, everybody is quite bewildered: wow, great music indeed, unsurpassed up to now, classical works etc. You really could KNOW that in advance! Maybe in 50 years KONTAKTE and MANTRA will be performed so often, that they rouse a great deal of boredom. But now..... Thus we can be grateful when we can listen to adequate performances.
I feel that it could be useful to have a discussion-forum on the music of Stockhausen. There are so many people from all over the world, young and old, learned and eager to get into contact with this musical world: musicologists, composers, musicians, music lovers; people who plan concerts - who write books or have to give lectures and so on. So there should be much stuff, many ideas that we can share. And when we have open questions, there may be people who studied just that and could give a hint or a stimulus.
A problem might be the English language, but i feel that is the only possibility that many people who are interested can participate. And we can exercise tolerance to mistakes!
